Holder Identification Numbers

What is a Holder Identification Number or HIN?

A Holder Identification Number (HIN) is a unique number that identifies CHESS sponsorship with a broker. All Westpac Share Trading accounts are assigned a HIN which means your shares sponsored by us are registered in the same name as your trading account. Some brokers hold the shares for you under their name on their Institutional HIN.

A HIN will start with the letter ‘X’ followed by ten numbers e.g., X1234567890.

CHESS sponsorship allows you to better manage your share portfolio as it consolidates all holdings purchased or sold under the same account under a single HIN.

It’s important to note that your HIN is not the same as your trading account number.
